Language Courses are designed specifically for students to hear, speak, see and play in the target language. From day one, students are fully immersed in an interactive course that encourages the student to develop as a language learner through the naturalist approach to language learning. ReDefiners’ classes promote and encourage communication in the target language through the target language. Students are introduced to language and cultural experiences that will help prepare them to be interculturally savvy in today’s globalized society. Course curriculum meets American Council on Teaching Foreign Languages (ACTFL) standards for language proficiency. Classes are sequential and divided by proficiency level and age groupings.

 

1A Arabic Reading/Writing is Designed for heritage learners who have the ability to speak Arabic but are seeking to develop formal Standard Modern Arabic reading and writing skills.

Is this the right level for your child?

1A = year 1, first semester; 0 to few hours of language instruction prior to starting this level in reading and writing. Speaking and listening skills developed from family members.

Semester Schedule:

Fall- 12 weeks Beginning in August (24 hours)

Spring-12 weeks Beginning in January (24 hours)

Summer- Beginning in June (24 hours)

2A Arabic

1A Arabic is designed for students with previous experience (at least 48 hours of formal Arabic instruction or high beginner heritage speakers)

Students will develop skills focused on listening and speaking.

Students should already be able to:

  • State name and numbers
  • Name family members
  • Shapes and colors
  • Body Parts
  • Emotions
  • Clothing
  • Descriptions
  • Weather and Seasons
  • Animals 

Students will review previous topics and learn new language related to:

School Life

Guiding/Essential Question: What do I need for different school subjects?

Sample objectives for 2A include:

  • Be able to say if someone is a teacher or a student, with the proper masculine or feminine marker
  • Be able to identify differences between Arabic and English
  • Identify several school objects upon hearing the word in Arabic
  • Name several school objects
